The songwriting team of Gary Garcia and Jerry Buckner, who wrote
the 1982 hit "Pac Man Fever" as well as the theme song to "WKRP in
Cincinnati," have committed their talents to saving a national icon
-- The All American Soap Box Derby. The derby, based in Akron,
Ohio, has been an American institution since 1936, but has recently
encountered financial difficulties. Buckner and Garcia grew up in
Akron.
The Akron community and Hollywood actor/director Corbin Bernsen
have joined to help save the derby through a film titled "25 Hill."
The film, a family feature, is currently in production and will be
shooting at the All American Soap Box Derby Championship on July
24.
Buckner and Garcia decided to join the fight to save the derby by
composing a tribute song to the race titled "Keepin' The Dream
Alive" and donating a portion of the proceeds to the derby.
The song, on the Prism Records label, is available for download for
99 cents on all major music sites including CD Baby, Apple iTunes,
Lime Wire, Amazon, and Napster.
